Background:
I have been active in safety since 1974, when it became obvious that H&S applied outside construction, docks, mines and factories. I became a member of IISO during my Carlett Park studies for my certificate and diploma from 1977 to 79. Redundancy allowed me to take my studies to MSc at Aston where I joined the British Health and Safety Society (the forerunner of the Safety Sciences Group).
Various posts as employee and consultant in the petro-chemical, defence, automotive and nuclear industries have culminated in my current post as the Principal Health and Safety Officer with Merseytravel where I try to keep our tunnels, ferries and bus facilities safe.
As your Representative on the Safety Sciences Group Committee, I assist that committee to achieve its twin aims of:
Promoting the use of proven science in Health and Safety decision-making; and
Assisting science-based graduates to put their research in the public domain for the benefit of all
