Branch Plan
Introduction

Over the past few years we have seen a great deal of change both within the Institution and the work place. Branches need to run effectively within the by-laws of the Institution and consider how they can support the Institution’s aims and objectives.

Branches need to be supporting members, this is likely to become more important as the new routes to membership bed in and assistance with CPD and preparing for the peer review interview is needed.

The Branch Plan has been put together to ensure that the Branch is fully prepared to meet the expectations and needs of members. The content of the plan covers three key areas:
  • Branch Meetings
  • Raising profile & Influencing
  • Communication

Branch Meetings

1. Increase the number of people attending branch meetings by:
  • Target members who do not attend meetings.
  • Encourage members to bring visitors/guests along to meetings

Sponsor: Don Gilfoyle. Don to make contact with members who never attend meetings and encourage them to attend.

Raising Profile and Influencing

1. Encourage those studying for H&S qualifications to join the institution by:
  • Make, and maintain, contact with NEBOSH training providers.
  • Consider NEBOSH/Degree syllabus when putting together branch programme.
Sponsor: Peter Williams. Peter to compile a list of training providers and nominate committee members as liaison officers.

2. Look for more opportunities to comment or correct safety & health articles in the local media by.
  • Nominating a branch media officer who knows the appropriate channels to challenge such articles.
Sponsor: All. Where any local media makes derogatory comments about safety and health issues or looks for an opinion committee members to liaise with Tim Carey who will co-ordinate responses.

3. Make more effort to involve HSE Inspectors in the Branch by:
  • Ensuring we get an HSE inspector along to branch meetings on a quarterly basis.
Sponsor: Neville Costain. Neville to give any member’s feedback to Dave Guyers.

Communication

1. Ongoing development of the web site to maximise the information available to members and others by.
  • Feeding information through to the web champion for publishing
  • Work with head office on the transfer of the website onto the main IOSH IT platform.
Sponsor: All. Ensure that Jonathan Deeks is provided with information to upload onto branch website.

2. Encourage members of the Branch to join local or national Committees by:
  • Actively seek new members to join the executive committee when vacancies arise
  • Encourage members to join national committees

Sponsor: All. Discuss volunteer positions with members.
