I started out within vehicle engineering moving into manufacturing operations management and then fell into safety whilst attempting to gain experience within the manufacturing sector. Since then have not looked back!
1996-97: Undergraduate H&S Coordinator General Motors Europe, at Vauxhall Luton Plant: Working in general assembly areas of the plant advising on H&S matter to Unit Manager. Heavily involved in management of MHE & PUWER compliance.
2000-01: H&S/Training Officer, Hibernia Foods Ltd, Hartlepool: General H&S role covering all aspects of safety within a busy frozen food manufacturing environment including covering other sites for leave etc.
2001-03: Group H&S Advisor, Reality Group Limited: Group safety advisor responsible for a mixed environment of call centres, warehouses, parcel depots and mailing centres including various engineering functions. Provided advice & guidance to management teams and delivered training on H&S matters within these areas.
2003-05: Regional H&S Manager, ShopDirect Group Limited: Following acquisition of Reality by the Littlewoods Group remit changed to Regional H&S Manager including covering retail premises as well as the call centres, distribution network and parcel drivers. Region covered the whole of the UK, Ireland and India!
2005-current: SHEQ Advisor & DGSA, Gist Limited: SHEQ advisor covering advice to various contracts within the 3rd party logistics (TPL) sector. Client base covers the UK and Europe. Gist is a part of the Linde Group having been part of BOC Group which was acquired by Linde in 2006. Linde is the world’s largest gases company. Gist provides TPL services to clients including Marks & Spenser, Carlsberg UK, British Airways, MBL, Kwik Fit amongst others. In addition to the work of a SHEQ Advisor I am also a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor for Gist, covering all aspects of the Carriage of Dangerous Goods to ensure compliance with the requirements following changes to retail distribution legislation in this area in 2005.
